Hi Bob,
Just writing to say thank you very much for having us at the
Dundee Blues Bonanza!
Thanks also for putting us on at a couple of really nice venues.
Chamber East is a big room and could perhaps benefit from a more
concert-like seating arrangement to help the audience feel
involved with the show, just a thought. We had a particularly
good gig on the Sunday, at Social. Great response from the
audience and we sold quite a few CDs which is always a good
sign. I was speaking to the bar manager at the end and he was
very happy with the show too, so from our point of view we had a
really successful festival. I hope you've had similarly good
feedback about the shows, we'd love to come back next year!
We took the opportunity to do some dates on the way up and
on the way back, a mini tour. We made some good contacts
with other promoters as a result so we may get back up to
Scotland towards the end of the year. It's all about getting
in front of people at the end of the day and we're committed
to building up our profile across the country.
Anyway, thanks again and I hope you'll consider us for
future Blues Bonanzas!
best regards,
Paul Garner

Just a few lines to say thanks once again to all the committee
for inviting The Bushwackers to perform at DBB once again. The
guys and myself had a great time at Social, and the Nether
inn. The audiences were a pleasure to play for, like last year
they really showed their appreciation. There are pics on our web
site posted at the gig on Sunday, with more to follow.
Once again many thanks from The Bushwackers.

The Broombusters Hi Bob,
Can I just say from myself and behalf of the band, thank you for having us at your festival.
We had 2 fantastic gigs at McDaniels and Soul. It could not have gone better. The crowd were amazing, so warm and welcoming and we had a super time performing for such great audiences. We made some really great contacts for future gigs and we are looking forward to returning to Dundee. It turns out that Lenny at Soul is my cousin! How crazy is that!! You and your team have done a sterling job of organising the festival and we would love to come back again next year. All the best to you and your team. Wolfman 5th. July 2011 |

Well done guys in producing a belter of a festival.
I'm willing to get more involved next year and get
in early (strokes permitting) to help with
sponsorship and marketing.
I sent a letter to The Courier re the festival so
hopefully it gets printed to help promotion.

Hi there, |
***** 9th Sept 2010 ***** copious amounts of weddings this last few weeks. Thanks so much for having us again at the Bonanza this year we really enjoyed the gig at Underground on the Sunday evening. The bar was a perfect size for a band like us and the place seemed to be absolutely rammed for our set! The staff at the venue were really helpful. that's got to be a bit unattractive for punters but hey ho we kept them all entertained enough to stick about till the end of our set. full length album which i will of course post you when it's done. Hopefully by the end of this month. rockin trio! |
***** 18th Aug 2010 ***** excellent venues, and some excellent bands. Big thanks to all the organisers for the effort, much appreciated. Anyone know who the busker that looked a bit like Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters) was outside the shopping centre on Sunday? He and his bassist were awesome, need to sign those boys up for next year! Hope we can come back again next year, and (Strathclyde police permitting!) will get there a bit earlier on the Friday to catch the start! |
***** 10th Aug 2010 ***** The Paddy Maguire Band and indeed only our third time out in any form as we walked onto the stage at Dexters, to say I was a little nervous would be the understatement of the year knowing that we were about to play material from the heavier/psychedelic end of the blues spectrum! I knew it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea!! But boy was I wrong!!! The audience at Dexters rocked and to say it was only 3pm on Saturday afternoon they were certainly in party mode, we threw in everything from Hendrix to Gallagher with a few splattering's of our own material which went down a storm (note to self!!! next year bring CDs) and by the reaction from the venues owner/management Paul! we will be back there again at some point in the not to distant future. Please see the attached photo's taken by Tony Winfield of bluespics.co.uk at Dexters. Tony & Sue for the photo's, and not least all the people that chatted to us, you guys rock my world!!. had special guest after special guest join us in the 'stage area' or was it was the only place they could get anywhere near the bar, the gig was loud, hot and packed (all boxes ticked there then) So another great show for us to end our first experience of The Dundee Blues Bonanza which leads me to the line up of the band! Pete Betts on Bass and Lee Bowater on Drums, two new face's to the blues world and little old me on 'loud box & Six'. deserve knighthoods. Alfie Dickson from the Smokie Blues Festival for your kind words, see you in September Alfie!! and everyone from both venues and people who came up to us in the streets, you all Rock My World. Hopefully we will be invited back for the 2011 Bonanza with CDs in hand. |
***** 8th Aug 2010 ***** at Dexters and for the first time plucked up the courage and went on stage to play guitar. I got a great reception and the quality of players there were second to none. I can't wait til next year. Well done everyone involved in making the weekend so enjoyable. I suppose God should get a mention to for giving us some good weather. |
***** 8th Aug 2010 ***** |
***** 6th Aug 2010 ***** the international workshop. We had a great time and hope to be back next year. |
***** 4th Aug 2010 ***** and again this year and it was immense again. I wish we could have a blues festival here in Culross, Fife. As for all the bands I saw, the one that stood out were the Pontiax Blues Band, I think they are from Northern Ireland. the Pontiax Blues Band that had it all for me. A tight band with amazing guitar work beautiful harp, really inspiring. So lets hear it for the boys from Ireland, The Pontiax Blues Band take another bow!! |
***** 3rd Aug 2010 ***** There are 2 bands i'd like to mention the band called Redstate whom played in the Social, they were brill the atmosphere in there was amazing!! Also the 2nd band are called Pontiax whom played in the old bank bar they was also brill, the place was buzzing! I would definetly go and watch them both again, hopefully they will be part of the line up again next year! |
***** 3rd Aug 2010 ***** there was no disappointments. We travelled all over the city centre, with the help of my big brother. The most memorable was Redstate at the Social Bar, Pontiax in the Old Bank Bar was a bonus, as we had seen them earlier in the afternoon. Weather and beer went down well. |
***** 2nd Aug 2010 ***** to the Dundee Blues Bonanza and we were not disappointed. Highlights for us included Heavy Mama at the Nether Inn, The Bushwackers and Maggie Ross & Phoenix Blues at the Doghouse. We enjoyed it so much that we caught up with them again at the Town on Sunday - sincerely hope they return again next year. were outstanding. Just managed to make it over to the Doghouse for the closing sessions with Jimmy C & co before going home tired and contented. Roll on DBB 2011 |
***** 2nd Aug 2010 ***** and Scotland. Many thanks from Havana Swing and friends and may you be even more appreciated in your future blues bonanzas. also many thanks to my great pal Ivor. |
***** 1st Aug 2010 ***** more space to set up at Tally's but we had been warned in advance so it was no big deal. and bye etc.Big thanks to Morris / Maurice who (after a drunken conversation in the Doghouse on Saturday night) turned up at Tally's on Sunday and jammed with us on his Harp. Not bad considering we play all our own stuff and he had never even heard of us before !!! sound ? To die for. Telecaster straight into the amp, no crappy processed pedals to interfere with the tone, it was awesome as those young folks say. |
***** 1st Aug 2010 ***** excellent gigs at Lyrics and Sinatra's - many thanks. The audiences were great - enthusiastic, knowledgeable and large at both venues. It was a pleasure to take part again. |

Having enjoyed the whole week-end both as a performer and spectator, on behalf of the 7th sons I'd like to thank all the organisers who make this event possible. Keep up the good work and thanks again. |
***** 31st July 2010 ***** The Social where Redstate played, the place was rocking. Pontiax, I had seen their first performance, but was lucky enough to see them again at the Bank Bar in the evening. Well worth the journey from Birmingham. 2011 cannot come quick enough. |
***** 31st July 2010 ***** years program together and from the folks we spoke to, it was certainly appreciated! |
***** 30th July 2010 ***** what more could you ask for? |
***** 30th July 2010 ***** with both, tho we lost some of our audience during the break between sets at the Westport Bar - good response in the first set so presume folk wanted to get to other gigs or maybe because it was apparently very difficult to get served at the bar. Staff at the Social said they hoped we'd be back there next year. Well done to all the organisers I hope you'll feel up to repeating the exercise next year! |
***** 30th July 2010 ***** this a weekend to remember. The band had a blast and cat wait till next year's festivities. |

Later saw Son Henry and the East Side Kings at the Underground doing a jumping Flip Flop and Fly – how cool was that! work in making this one of the most enjoyable music weekends on the Dundee events calendar. |

We bought the CD which has been on repeat since - so a huge congrats to them. Of course the closing party was great in every way - and for the first time I saw a double bass being played laid flat, with the musician lying on top! Very entertaining! |
***** 27th July 2010 ***** the work you guys put in to pull it all together, thanks again. Really enjoyed 'Poorboy at the Doghouse and many others, no room to list all of them. |

***** 27th July 2010 ***** from Aberdeen who opened with a lively 45 minute set then the legendary Lil Jimmy Reed who once again showed how the blues should be played. Headline act Mud Morganfield ( son of Muddy Waters ) came on and had one of the best spots i,ve ever seen at The Dundee Blues Bonanza !! He played 90 minutes and with an outstanding band behind him really sung the blues the way it should be done !! He looked and sounded like his father, a higher compliment you can,t attain in the blues world !! A packed crowd loved it and went home ready for the Saturday round the pubs and lots of great bands !! I was back on the Sunday at Deja Vu,s where anothe packed crowd had a great time !! Jimmy C and his band were the act on in the afternnoon and went down very well !! The Baton Rouge Delta Blues Band were on 1st at night and their coustic blues set went down well.....Lil Jimmy Reed and Mud Morganfield were the 2 acts to finish the night and once again a packed crowd had a great night !!! All in all a superb weekend of blues music with some great musicians on show and a big thank you to the committee for their excellent organisation !! Roll on 2011 and another great Blues Bonanza in Dundee !! James Low |

***** 26th July 2010 ***** duties. WE saw Havana Swing at the Capitol and then went to see the Bourbon Street Preachers at the Social. It was here we had the only bum note of the day. I ordered a pint of Staropramen and a glass of coke and was charged £5.10p. I was astounded when I discovered it was £3.60 for a pint of Staropramen. That is even more than they charge you at Glasgow Airport. Obviously the recession hasn't hit Dundee if somewhere can get away with charging a kings ransom for a pint. As you are aware a tariff has to be cleary on display and I was directed to an illegible sheet of paper pinned to the bar in the vicinity of the optics. There was a regular tariff board with the plastic letters and numbers on a pillar at the bar but this was all gobbledygook. I reckon that the management of this particular establishment took advantage of the occasion by hiking up the prices for the festival weekend. It would be interesting to find out what the normal prices in the establishment were. They certainly do not operate under the overall spirit and philosophy of the festival as a whole, which we knew about for many years but still had kids who couldn't get into the pubs during the day. We thoroughly enjoyed the 2 bands and are going to come next year and stay the weekend and get in as much of the blues and jazz as we can. But not at the Social I hasten to add. If you spot a solid gold Rolls Royce or Ferrari buzzing about town then you will know the driver owns the Social!!!! Many thanks to you for a great day's entertainment. |
***** 26th July 2010 ***** hard work they put into this throughout the year. To make this the16th year the most successful festival to date, every year they strive to improve and once again they have raised the Tempo, . The reputation of this Festival has the luxury of being envied all over Europe and thanks to that we were treated to some of the best bands from far and wide . To name all the highlights over the weekend would take all day , but for me personally i really enjoyed , Paddy McGuire in the Dexter's Saturday ,Baton Rouge Delta in the Arctic bar, the Maggie Ross Band, Jimmy c, the Bushwakers, Mamas brand new bag , Ben Ruth & the Convultion's etc, etc, etc. How much more enjoyable it is when the weather is nice , Roll on next year and once again well done to Bob ,Hennie, and all the unknown people who helped to put it all together. |
***** 26th July 2010 ***** very entertaining. see The Accelerators (who we had heard a lot about) in The Arctic Bar at night, and seemed really good, unfortunately the bar was absolutely mobbed, and like an oven, so didn`t stay too long. were fantastic, and the guitarist was a real showman - another real class act!! |
***** 21st May 2010 ***** a heard great reports from Sweden 2 years ago is on the bill plus Mud Morganfield and Lil Jimmy Reed....also as usual the pubs will have a host of excellent acts !!! Am looking forward to it once again....Always a very enjoyable weekend !!!! |

***** 7th April 2010 ***** show together. It was a fantastic weekend. I live in Edinburgh and never seem to have much time to get together with friends and family and listen to music that is all inspiring. was about 20 of us altogether. There aren't that many chances for a party of people with such diverse characters to spend the entire weekend together. My friends brother travelled from Wellington, New Zealand for the week. The Blues Bonanza was the thread that pulled us all together, from Friday morning until late Sunday night. We sang, danced, drank and ate together all day every day. This wouldn't have been possible without the Bonanza. So Can I say a big Thank you on behalf of everyone. description of the artists did not come close to their actual talent. For example - the Blues Stripes. That girl can rock - she was one of the most inspiring talents of the year. She played a couple of covers which had twists and turns that even Lead Belly himself would have been praised. The guitarist that came on after her was also a magnificent talent. The guitar riffs and melodies along with the vocals of this guy was as if Jimmi Hendrix was with us - at least in soul. There was so many more to talk of but my problem was that there was so many artists - I couldn't decide which artists to go and see. To see the full set that an artist does takes a while and it would be great if there was an arbitrary way in which you could gauge the bands - What about streaming the bands by instruments - say harmonica. They could be categorised in blues - bluegrass and so on. I know it must be difficult as the artists may not be easy to categorise and they may get a bit humpty. |
