SPECIAL EVENTS FOR 2008 Over the course of the weekend, there will be a number of special events taking place. As well as the International Nite party, we will be having a Junior Bonanza and some music workshops and jam sessions. We hope many of our visitors and performers can find the time over the weekend to support these events and make them a success.

Krissy Returns to Dundee
One of the attractions to be developed from last year will be the Jnr Bonanza for people under the age of 18. Workshops will be held this year at Riptide Studios (Blinshall Street) and will once again be featuring Krissy Matthews (pictured right) who impressed us all so much with his band last year.
Krissy first appeared on stage at the age of 3, got his first electric guitar at 8, and thankfully for us, he went on to discover the blues at the age of 11. Now 15 years old Krissy has performed numerous venues and festivals and managed to perform live on stage with names like John Mayall, the late Jeff Healey, Bernie Marsden, Walter Trout and Larry Burton, and has also toured with Robben Ford. That surely is a resume that all we blues musicians would just love to have. Krissy regularly tours in Scandinavia with his three piece rock blues band, which includes father Keith Matthews on Bass and Chris Sharley on Drums and the band just made their first appearance in Europe last October. The live set is very heavily influenced by late 60's artists such as Jimi Hendrix and the Yardbirds, with a high level of energy put in by Krissy who feeds off the audience. Although the band will cover some well known blues anthems, about 75% of their set is original material.

The band have released two CD’s to date, “Influences” from 2006 and their new album from 2007 “No Age Limit”. Check out www.krissymatthews.com for more info

The “Calvin Baldi” Blindman Blues Forum Jam Session
Last year we had a “Blues Jam” session where most if not all of the participants were members of “The Blindman's Blues Forum”. This year, by request, we will again be hosting a BBF Blues Jam in Dexters on Sunday from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.
Sadly on May 31st this year one of the BBF members died on his fifteenth birthday. After consultation with the DBB committee and the other participants of the BBF forum we are all agreed that we should dedicate this years BBF jam to the memory of Calvin Baldi "The Hoy, Hoy Boy" - 31/05/93 - 31/05/08. Acoustic Summit (Blues Jam Session)

Arranged for this year due to very popular demand is an “Acoustic Summit” event. This is an informal gathering, where all Acoustic Blues players can meet and play together or simply listen and pick up tips and tricks. The event will be held on both Saturday from 4pm till 6pm and will resume later at 8pm until closing time. If you cannot make the Saturday times, there will be another chance to join in again on Sunday from 5.30pm until 8pm. All sessions will be held in Ogston’s (formerly Malones in North Lindsay Street).

Photo Exhibition by Dave Peabody
Following the success of last year’s superb photo exhibition by internationally renowned photographer Dave Peabody, Bonanza visitors can expect to see a new one for this year. Sponsored by, and scheduled to be held in Dexters (Castle Street), Dave's theme will focus on blues festivals from around the world. As he was spotted taking many photos last year in Dundee, we can be sure that this will be eagerly anticipated.
